What is the Purpose of the ECHO Cancer Foundation?
The ECHO Cancer Foundation is a unique 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing supportive services, guidance and education to cancer patients and their caregivers.
It is our goal to address each patient’s individual needs so that no one lacks care or comfort while living with cancer. The Foundation offers many services to help patients cope with their diagnosis and treatment. These are some of the services we offer:
ONE to ONE MENTOR PROGRAM - This unique program offers the cancer patient support and information from someone who has “been there”. Trained Mentors are available to listen and talk to you regarding any questions or concerns that you may have. This program is free of charge and is available to any cancer patient, regardless of where the patient is receiving treatment.
CarePages.com - Create a free, private, personalized web page to help you receive support from family and friends while keeping them updated on your health. get started now >>
RESOURCE CENTER - We have a large collection of books to borrow that may help you cope and better understand your disease. We also have several laptops that may be used while receiving treatment here in the office.
WIGS, PROSTHESES & APPAREL - The Foundation Office has a generous supply of gently used and lovingly refurbished wigs for anyone who needs one. Resource and information about post-surgery, Lymphedema and chemotherapy products are also available.
LYMPHEDEMA SUPPORT - Personalized help to understand risk factors, prevention strategies and coping with Lymphedema is available.
TRANSPORTATION - We can help arrange transportation to and from chemotherapy or doctors appointments.
LUNCH - If you have not brought lunch for yourself, we can arrange delivery of a boxed lunch from the Backus Hospital Cafeteria at the cost of $3.50 per lunch. Please let the Beacon of Hope Volunteer know that you will need lunch when you arrive.
COFFEE, TEA & GOODIES - Complementary coffee and tea is available for you and your guests while you are here in the office.
A very important and vital part of the Foundation is our ECHO Beacons of Hope Volunteer Program. Many of our volunteers have been patients or are family members of both present and past cancer patients. This group provides companionship and hospitality to patients, families and caregivers during office visits. For a cancer patient, sometimes besieged with masses of information, having someone other than a doctor or nurse to talk to who has had a similar experience may be reassuring and helpful.
The Foundation programs and services are made possible by individual and corporate
tax-deductible donations.
